Canseco renews McGwire steroids claim

NEW YORK, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Former baseball slugger Jose Canseco says he injected steroids into Oakland A's teammate Mark McGwire "once or twice for sure."

In an interview with Mike Wallace on CBS' "60 Minutes" to be broadcast Sunday, Canseco appears uncertain later when he says, "I think I injected him -- I mean this is a long time ago -- once or twice for sure. I didn't keep track."

The interview, initially taped for airing on Feb. 20, was pushed up because the publication date of Canseco's book, "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits and How Baseball Got Big," was moved up from Feb. 21 to Monday.

In the segment, Wallace challenges some of Canseco's assertions in the book. "I would often inject Mark," Canseco wrote, according to a CBS press release. In the interview, however, Canseco narrows that number.

Canseco also says he shot up Texas Rangers teammates Rafael Palmeiro, Juan Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez. All have denied the claims.
