Bowditch leads New Zealand Open

WHANGAPARAOA, New Zealand, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Twenty-one-year-old Australian Steven Bowditch shot an 8-under-par 64 Thursday to take a one-stroke lead in the New Zealand Open.

Five golfers shared second at 65: Alastair Forsyth, Simon Nash, Chris Hanell, Niclas Fasth and Joakim Haeggman.

The tournament, at the Gulf Harbour Country Club, is part of the European Tour international schedule for the first time.

Pierre Fulke was in a group of eight players at 66 and Craig Perry, winner of last week's tour event, was one of four players at 68.
