COL BKB: Notre Dame 78, Connecticut 74

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame staged a 78-74 upset Sunday over the 16th-ranked Connecticut Huskies.

Torin Francis had 19 points. Chris Thomas 15, and Dennis Latimore 12 points plus nine rebounds for the Fighting Irish (13-5, 5-3 Big East).

Denham Brown led the Huskies (12-5, 4-3) with 20 points. Rudy Gay had 16 points and Marcus Williams had 10 points and a school-record 16 assists.

But Williams missed a late-game layup that would have tied the score.

UConn missed two three-pointers in the closing seconds.
