Clubs want to recruit 9-year-old Brazilian

RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- European soccer clubs are taking early recruitment to the next level by looking to a Brazilian grade-schooler as the possible next coming of Pele.

Reports both in Brazil and abroad say Britain's Manchester United, among other clubs, has expressed interest in 9-year-old Jean Carlos Chera from the southern state of Parana.

While Chera's parents forbid their son to speak to reporters, coaches for the boy said clubs are asking to send representatives to speak to Chera and have requested game footage of him playing.

Chera is reportedly dominating in games against children four or five years his senior.

Two years ago, several European clubs expressed interest in signing then-14-year-old Freddy Adu, who eventually joined the U.S. Major League Soccer team in Washington.
