Brits sorry for white-only soccer DVD

LONDON, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Officials of Britain's professional soccer league have apologized for excluding blacks from an official DVD of the nation's top players.

Titled "The Pride of the Nation," the DVD was included in a $127 welcome packet for new members of the official English fan club, the Sun reported Thursday.

It features a selection of the nation's top "footballers" from the past four decades, but none of the memorable non-white stars such as Paul Ince, John Barnes, Rio Ferdinand and Sol Campbell were mentioned.

"We apologize for a regrettable oversight that shouldn't have occurred," said Adrian Bevington, spokesman for the Football Association. "There have been numerous outstanding black footballers since Viv Anderson's debut in 1978. That should have been highlighted in the DVD."
