HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Former Thoroughbred jockey Roger Danjean died in an automobile accident near his home in Hollywood, Fla. He was 60.

Danjean and Linda Mustaine, 43, were killed when the 1966 Ford Cobra convertible he was driving hit a median, flew through the air and slammed into a concrete light pole, The Miami Herald reported Monday.

Mustain was attending a party given by Danjean's family Saturday when he offered to take someone on a ride in the classic, high-speed vehicle. She quickly volunteered, friends said.

Danjean's career as a jockey in south Florida and the northeastern United States lasted 30 years before he retired in the early 1990s.

He had mounts in 6,000 races, winning more than 700 of them including 16 stakes races. His biggest victories included the 1981 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga, N.Y., aboard 2-year-old Timely Writer.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and three daughters. Funeral arrangements were pending.
