ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- The Texas Rangers Friday extended the contracts of General Manager John Hart and Manager Buck Showalter.

Hart signed a two-year deal that automatically renews unless it is terminated by either party, team owner Thomas O. Hicks said.

Showalter, who guided the Rangers to a surprising 89-73 mark in 2004 and a third-place finish in the American League West, got a three-year extension.

"I am pleased we could ensure they will be here in the future," Hicks said.
