Roddick, Davenport win in third round

MELBOURNE, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Americans Andy Roddick and Lindsay Davenport both reached the fourth round of the Australian Open Saturday while Britain's Tim Henman was ousted.

The top-seeded Davenport defeated Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic, 6-2, 6-4. Roddick, who has yet to lose a set in the event, was a 6-2, 6-2, 7-5 winner over Jurgen Melzer of Austria.

Roddick was heading for a possible quarterfinal meeting with Henman, but the No. 7 seed fell to Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.

On Thursday, world No. 1 Roger Federer advanced past the third round with a 6-3, 5-2 win over Jarkko Nieminen, who retired with an injury.

It was Federer's 24th straight match win.

Also winning on Thursday was Russian Marat Safin, who outlasted Mario Ancic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, and 34-year-old four-time champion Andre Agasse, a 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 winner over fellow American Taylor Dent.

On the women's side, third-seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France moved to the fourth round with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Ana Ivanovic.
