Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Jerome Gumbs scored 18 points Thursday night and San Francisco fought off No. 20 Gonzaga, 73-70.
The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 19 early in the second half and their comeback bid fell just short.
John Cox added 13 points for the Dons, who improved to 10-7 for the season and to 2-2 in the West Coast Conference.
Gonzaga (13-4, 3-2) was led by Ronny Turiaf and Derek Raivio with 18 points each.
The Bulldogs came within two points with 11.3 seconds left on a three-pointer by David Pendergraft. Dommanic Ingerson made only one of two free throws for San Francisco with nine seconds remaining and Raivio missed a three-pointer with three seconds to go.
