MIAMI, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Joe Bailey, once the chief assistant for Dallas General Manager Tex Schramm, was hired Thursday as the new CEO of the Miami Dolphins.
Eddie Jones, who has been president of the Dolphins for nine seasons, announced he will retire this spring.
Bailey will be in charge of all phases of the club and will report only to club owner Wayne Huizenga.
"Joe brings extensive experience in sports administration and marketing, as well as executive management," said Huizenga. "We were very impressed by his accomplishments during his tenure with the Cowboys and the NFL office and his guidance proved invaluable when he helped the Dolphins in the search that led to the hiring of Nick Saban as the team's new head coach."
Bailey spent 19 years with the Cowboys, beginning as an assistant in the equipment room and working his way through the scouting and business department. He became senior vice president under Schramm.
