NHL cancels board of governors meeting

TORONTO, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A meeting of the NHL Board of Governors scheduled for Jan. 14 was cancelled Thursday because no progress has been made in the current labor stalemate.

No board meeting has been held since last September, when the lockout of the league's players began.

"The clubs were unanimously of the view that there is no need for a meeting at this point in time," said NHL Executive Vice President Bill Daly.

There had been speculation that Commissioner Gary Bettman would use the Jan. 14 meeting to announce the entire NHL season would be wiped out.

The lockout reached 113 days Thursday. There have been 571 games lost, including the All-Star game.
