Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Twins, winners of three straight American League Central titles, have extended Manager Ron Gardenhire's contract through 2007, the team announced Wednesday.
The Twins have a 276-209 record under Gardenhire, only the seventh manager in major league history to lead a team to at least 90 wins three years in a row.
Gardenhire, 47, became manager of the Twins in 2002, succeeding Tom Kelly, whose Minnesota teams twice won the World Series.
