BOSTON, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Notre Dame's new football coach is being sued by a Massachusetts contractor who says the longtime NFL assistant stiffed him for $161,000.
Builder Steve Benoit sued Charlie Weis and his wife in Boston federal court last week, alleging that the couple committed "unfair and deceptive acts" before refusing to pay him the rest of his money for building their Cumberland, R.I., home.
Weis, offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots and a 1978 Notre Dame graduate who has been an NFL assistant for 16 years, was tapped last month to coach the Fighting Irish for a reported $2 million per year in a six-year deal.
Benoit says he is worried the Weis family will sell the house and skip off to South Bend, Ind., while still owing him $161,000 for the house he built in 2000 for $373,600.
Other contractors who worked on the Weis home have sought liens totaling $58,000 against the property.
