SAN DIEGO, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Doug Flutie passed for 199 yards and a touchdown and ran for another TD Sunday to lead the San Diego Chargers to a 24-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chargers (12-4) will host the New York Jets next week in the opening round of the NFL playoffs.

San Diego, which already won the AFC West division, had the No. 4 seed in the playoffs locked up prior to this game and because of that played without many of its regulars, sitting out quarterback Drew Brees, running back LaDainian Tomlinson and tight end Antonio Gates.

Trent Green completed 33 of 53 passes for 373 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions for the Chiefs (7-9), who had their four-game winning streak halted.
