DENVER, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Bryon Russell's two free throws put Denver in front with 33 seconds remaining Friday night and the Nuggets held on to down Philadelphia, 97-92.
Denver snapped a six-game skid with Carmelo Anthony scoring 24 points. The Nuggets played for the first time under interim coach Michael Cooper, who replaced the fired Jeff Bzdelik.
Allen Iverson paced Philadelphia with 29 points, but the 76ers lost on the road for the first time in six games.
Russell put Denver in front at 93-91 with his two key free throws, after which Iverson could make only one. DerMarr Johnson made one from the line for Denver, after which Iverson missed a shot.
