Kitna starting against Eagles

CINCINNATI, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Jon Kitna will start at quarterback Sunday when the Cincinnati Bengals play at Philadelphia.

It will be his third consecutive start in place of the injured Carson Palmer, who continues to rest his injured left knee.

Palmer was hurt against New England on Dec. 12.

Kitna, who was the starter last season, has completed 45-of 77 for 463 yards. He has four touchdown passes and four interceptions.

Coach Marvin Lewis said Palmer could be the No. 2 quarterback against the Eagles. He is listed as questionable after taking part in practice the past three days and has improved mobility in the knee's strained medial collateral ligament.

Philadelphia is one of four teams against whom Kitna, a nine-year veteran, has never started.

Palmer, who started the first 13 games, is 263-of-432 with 18 touchdowns and 18 interceptions this season.
