EL PASO, Texas, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Sam Keller threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Rudy Burgess with 44 seconds to play Friday, giving Arizona State a 27-23 win over Purdue in the Sun Bowl.
Keller was filling in for the injured Andrew Walter and he came through in the clutch by leading the Sun Devils on an 80-yard, game-winning drive.
He completed all four of his pass attempts on the march.
The 24th-rated Sun Devils completed a 9-3 season while Purdue finished at 7-5.
Keller was good on 25 of 45 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns. There had been speculation that Hakim Hill would start in place of Walter, but Hill was kicked off the team earlier in the week.
Purdue's Kyle Orton completed 23 of 47 for 273 yards and three scores, but his final pass of the game was knocked away in the end zone.
