LONDON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old British student has become the youngest person ever to trek to the South Pole.
Robert Dunn is due back in Britain Monday with the rest of the four-man team from West Notts College.
They reached the South Pole Dec. 12 at 4:30 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time, also becoming the first school group to complete the trip.
Speaking on a satellite phone Dunn said, "It was just amazing. I'm speechless, really.
"It was such hard work, and to get there was so emotional, but it was probably the best challenge I will ever get to do in my life.
"If I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I would jump at it."
He would never forget the moment they reached the pole after the 10-day trek, he said.
"We all lined up together, and we did a countdown from three to one, and we all touched the pole at exactly the same time. It was just amazing," he said.
The team trained for over a year for the expedition, traveling to Norway for practice in icy conditions.
