Majerus, who was supposed to coach the Trojans starting with the 2005-06 season, reportedly resigned Saturday.

Majerus, 56, had been serving as a college basketball analyst for ESPN, which reported his resignation from USC and said he will continue his television work.

Health issues are believed to be the reason for Majerus' change of mind. A report Saturday said he has been "working full force" since accepting the USC job and is already experiencing physical discomfort.

SI.com reported USC is tentatively preparing a press conference to announce Majerus' resignation while already focusing on finding a new coach.

British woman hopes to set world record

LONDON, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A British yachtswoman seeking to set a record for sailing alone around the world, without stopping, roared into the Indian Ocean Saturday at about 20 mph.

Winds gusting to nearly 50 mph and waves reaching 40 feet propelled Ellen MacArthur on her 75-foot, $3-million trimaran, her Web site said.

MacArthur is seeking to break a solo record set last year by France's Francis Joyon, who also used a trimaran, which is a three-hulled sailboat. He circumnavigated in 72 days, 22 hours, 54 minutes and 22 seconds. By Saturday MacArthur was more than 20 hours ahead of Joyon's record.

So far she has sailed more than 8,000 miles in her 25,000-mile voyage, averaging about 15 mph, which is an extremely fast pace for a sailboat.

She began her trip off the French coast near the English Channel Nov. 28 and must return to the same location by Feb. 9 to claim the prestigious record.
