NBA: Boston 114, Utah 106

BOSTON, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Gary Payton turned in his best performance of the season Friday night in leading Boston to a 114-106 win over Utah.

Payton scored 27 points while Mark Blount had 18 and Paul Pierce 13. It was Boston's third win in four games after the Celtics had lost three in a row.

Utah, which has dropped nine of 11, was paced by Carlos Boozer's 25 points.

The Celtics built a 17-point lead in the opening quarter and were never challenged.

Boston shot 55 percent for the game and led by as many as 21 points in the third quarter. The Jazz came no closer than eight the rest of the way.
