Campbell wins Walter Payton Award

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- William & Mary quarterback Lang Campbell was named the winner of the Walter Payton Award Friday night.

The honor goes to the player of the year in NCAA Division I-AA and it was handed out on the eve of the national championship game.

Campbell completed 66 percent of his throws this season for 3,037 yards and 21 touchdowns. He threw only one interception.

Campbell finished with 315 points in voting from media members and sports information directors. Sam Houston State quarterback Dustin Long finished second with 185 points.
