ICC mulls move from Lord's

LONDON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Cricket's governing body is contemplating a move from London's fabled Lord's cricket ground after the British government failed to give it tax breaks.

The International Cricket Council has been based at Lord's since 1909. It is considering moving to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Ireland or Malaysia, all of which have offered tax concessions and property discounts to the game's governing body.

Cricket is popular in the Commonwealth countries, which Britain once ruled.

Although not a Commonwealth member, Dubai is considered the front-runner and a decision is expected this week.

The ICC is a multibillion-dollar body.
