Mackey Award goes to Virginia tight end

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- The John Mackey Award, which goes to the nation's top collegiate tight end, was given to Virginia's Heath Miller on Thursday.

Miller led Virginia with 36 catches for 475 yards and five touchdowns this season. He has established an Atlantic Coast Conference career record with 20 touchdowns.

Miller edged finalists Marcedes Lewis of UCLA and Alex Smith of Stanford.

Last year's award went to Kellen Winslow of Miami.
