KALAMAZOO, Mich., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Bill Cubit was hired Tuesday as football coach at Western Michigan University.
Cubit, who played quarterback at Delaware in the early 1970s, recently served as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Stanford, a position he held for two seasons (2003-04). He also was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rutgers (2001-02), and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Missouri in the 2000 season.
Cubit succeeds Gary Darnell, who coached the Broncos from 1997-2004. Cubit's son, Ryan, was WMU's starting quarterback this past season.
Cubit, 51, who will be the school's 14th head coach, brings 29 years experience, including 14 years as a college head coach.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity Western Michigan University has given me to come back to a place I love," Cubit said at a news conference. "I look forward to bringing the Broncos back to a level of success that is deserving of this program."
