Craig Monroe faces petit theft charges

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Craig Monroe, an outfielder for the Detroit Tigers, faces a second-degree misdemeanor charge of petit theft for allegedly stealing a belt.

A Port Charlotte, Fla., police report said Monroe last Friday wrapped the $29.99 belt around his waist and tried to leave the department store without paying for it.

He was detained by a security guard and police were called. Monroe was released from the county jail after posting a $500 bond.

He is to be arraigned Dec. 15. Monroe, a Texarkana, Texas, native, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1995 and earned $335,000 in 2004.
