Davis out as coach of Browns

CLEVELAND, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Butch Davis resigned as coach of the Cleveland Browns and Terry Robiskie was named interim coach, the team announced Tuesday.

The changes followed the team's fifth straight loss. Cleveland has won only three games this season and remains stuck in last place in the AFC North.

Robiskie, the offensive coordinator, will coach the team for the rest of the season, CEO John Collins said.

Collins said Robiskie is "extremely capable and has the support of the entire team."

It became necessary for "the Cleveland Browns ownership, management and myself to move in different directions," the 52-year-old Davis said.

"Instead of the focus each week being specifically on my job, this will allow the team to focus on the games and the management to focus and create a new beginning in personnel as well as coaching.

The Browns are 3-8 following a 58-48 loss at Cincinnati Sunday.

Davis, who formerly coached at the University of Miami, was in his fourth season as coach of the Browns. His teams have won 24 games and lost 35.

"I have no immediate plans to stay in coaching," Davis said.
