DENVER, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Dick Ebersol, one of the most powerful men in sports television, survived the crash of a chartered plane Sunday.
At least two people died in the crash.
Ebersol is chairman of NBC Sports and has been chiefly responsible for bringing the Olympics to his network. NBC-TV owns the American rights to the Winter and Summer Olympics through 2012.
The Denver affiliate of NBC released a statement saying the plane carrying Ebersol crashed into a fence at the airport in Montrose, Colo., and caught fire.
Ebersol was seriously injured, the statement said. Two others survived the crash. The network affiliate said the pilot and co-pilot died. Neither was immediately identified. A sixth person on the plane was missing.
Ebersol is married to actress Susan St. James. She was not a passenger on the plane.
