HATTIESBURG, Miss., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Southern Mississippi accepted a bid to the New Orleans Bowl Sunday, setting up a meeting with North Texas.

North Texas (7-4) had already clinched a spot in the game by winning the Sun Belt Conference for the fourth straight year.

The Mean Green won its last seven games of the season. North Texas has a 1-2 record in the New Orleans Bowl, which will be the first bowl game of the season on Dec. 14.

Southern Mississippi (6-4) will represent Conference USA after winding up in a four-way tie for second. The Golden Eagles will play California on Saturday in a game postponed from earlier in the season because of a hurricane threat.
