ATHENS, Ga., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Seventh-ranked Georgia staved off an attempted second-half comeback Saturday to post a 19-16 victory over Georgia Tech.
David Green and D.J. Shockey shared quarterback duties for Georgia and combined for 192 passing yards and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs (9-2) beat the Yellow Jackets for the fourth straight year.
Greene was replaced by Shockley late in the first quarter after the NCAA's all-time winningest quarterback injured his left thumb after being knocked to the ground. Greene returned with 7:11 left in the game when Georgia Tech appeared to have gained momentum.
Reggie Ball passed for 141 yards, completing only 13 of 31 for Georgia Tech (6-5) which nearly rallyed from a 16-0 halftime deficit.
Shockley completed only two of nine passes for 21 yards in the second half.
