UTEP accepts Houston Bowl invite

HOUSTON, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Officials of the Houston Bowl announced Wednesday that Texas-El Paso had accepted an invitation to play in the game on Dec. 29.

An opponent for the Miners has yet to be determined, but it will be either Colorado, Iowa State, Nebraska or Oklahoma State.

Texas-El Paso has posted a surprising 8-2 record this season and is 6-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

The Southeastern Conference usually supplies a team for the Houston Bowl, but there will not be enough bowl eligible teams from that league to fulfill all the league's obligations.
