CHAMPAIGN, Ill., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Dee Brown scored 17 points Friday night to lead fifth-ranked and hot-shooting Illinois to a season-opening, 87-67 victory over Delaware State.

The Illini shot 64 percent from the field and made 12 of 22 three-point shots. Luther Head and James Augustine both scored 15 for Illinois, the defending Big Ten champion.

Delaware State gave Illinois a battle for much of the first half, but an 11-point run gave the Illini a 34-28 advantage en route to a 50-37 halftime lead.
