Ex-BYU athlete draws jail time for assault

PROVO, Utah, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Marcus Whalen, a former Brigham Young University football player, has been sentenced to 15 days in jail for assault.

Whalen, 22, also was fined $925 and ordered to perform 120 hours of community service on misdemeanor charges stemming from the April 14 incident, the Provo Daily Herald said.

The charges grew from an allegation by Yussufu R. Nsabimana that Whalen and Breyon Jones, 21, also a former BYU football player, beat him up twice and stole $125.

Jones pleaded guilty and will be sentenced Dec. 1.
