Donovan named best in American soccer

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Landon Donovan won soccer's Player of the Year Award for the third time Thursday, becoming the first person to do so.

Donovan, 22, totaled 355 points for San Jose this year in MLS. He finished in front of DaMarcus Beasley and Carlos Bocanegra in voting by members of the media.

Donovan became the youngest player ever to win the award when he first did so in 2002.
