Big 12 reprimands Mark Mangino

DALLAS, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino has been reprimanded by the Big 12 Conference for negative comments.

The league took the action Wednesday.

Also, Mangino was slapped with a $5,000 fine for his post-game comments after KU was beaten by Texas, 27-23, on Nov. 13.

The Longhorns scored a game-winning touchdown on the last play of the game, following a costly pass interference call against Kansas. Afterwards, Mangino criticized game officials, accusing them for wanting Texas to win to keep the Longhorns in league title contention.

"Coach Mangino's public statements called into question the integrity of the conference and its officials," said Commissioner Kevin Weiberg. "To insinuate that games are called unfairly so that one member institution can prevail over another is irresponsible and completely baseless."

A school official said Mangino, who could be suspended for any future outburst, will pay the fine out of his own pocket.
