TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Safety Dexter Jackson, former Tampa Bay Super Bowl MVP, rejoined the Bucs Tuesday.
Jackson, who won Super Bowl XXXVII MVP honors with two first-half interceptions in the Bucs' 48-21 rout of Oakland, was a free agent since being was released by Arizona on Oct. 13.
He had not played during the 2004 regular season due to a back injury.
The Bucs made the move because both of their safety starters could be out for Sunday's game against San Francisco.
Free safety Jermaine Phillips has been ruled out due to a forearm fracture, while strong safety Dwight Smith is questionable due to a knee sprain.
Jackson had 86 tackles and three interceptions during the 2002 regular season and was just the second safety ever to capture an MVP award in the Super Bowl. The following year, he accepted a five-year, $14 million deal with Arizona and had six interceptions last season for the Cardinals.
