Barber, a fourth-round draft pick by the Washington Redskins out of Richmond in 1998, recorded 42 tackles (27 solo), one forced fumble and one sack this season.

"We're going miss him not just for the way he plays the game but for the chemistry he brings to the locker room, to the plane ride, to the pre-game meal," Coach Dick Vermeil told the Kansas City Star.

The seven-year veteran, who joined Kansas City as a free agent in 2003, has also played for Philadelphia. He had started 24 consecutive games.

In 89 games, Barber has 422 tackles, 10 sacks, five fumble recoveries and seven pass interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. He made a five sacks in 2003.
