Bettis among NFL Players of the Week

NEW YORK, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis was among the NFL Player of the Week winners named Wednesday.

Bettis rushed for 149 yards on 33 carries Sunday as the Steelers pounded Philadelphia, 27-3, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season.

The award, for the top offensive player in the AFC, was the third for the 12-year veteran.

Other AFC winners were Baltimore safety Ed Reed on defense and placekicker Adam Vinatieri for special teams.

Their NFC counterparts were Tampa Bay running back Michael Pittman, Chicago Bears end Alex Brown and kick returner James Thrash of Washington.

Pittman rushed for 128 yards on 15 carries in the Buccaneers' 34-31 victory over Kansas City. He scored three touchdowns, including a 78-yarder, the longest run of his career.
