KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame edged the 11th-ranked Volunters of Tennessee, 17-13, Saturday.
Mike Goolsby scored on a 26-yard interception return in the third quarter to give the Irish a 14-10 lead. Backup quarterback Rick Clausen was in for starter Erik Ainge, who suffered a separated right shoulder at the end of the first half.

Brady Quinn threw for 118 yards and a touchdown for the Irish (6-3), who became Bowl eligible. Darius Walker rushed for 70 yards for Notre Dame.
Cedric Houston had 143 yards -- 65 rushing and 78 receiving -- and a touchdown for Tennessee (7-2).
