Report: Leftwich out 4-6 weeks

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without quarterback Byron Leftwich 4-6 weeks because of a left knee injury.

According to the Jacksonville Times-Union, Leftwich underwent an MRI at home on Monday, and another Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala., where players normally see Dr. James Andrews, an orthopedic surgeon.

Leftwich was hurt in a 20-6 loss to the Houston Texans Sunday. It has not been specified that his season is over, but if he is out the anticipated amount of time he will play only one more game this season, Jan. 2 at Oakland.

The second-year pro, who was the Jaguars' fourth-round draft pick in 2003, has a history of leg-related injuries.

The Jaguars (5-3) are idle Sunday and play again Nov. 14 against Detroit.

ESPN reported that backup David Garrard is expected to take over in Leftwich's absence.
