NASCAR fines Wallace for bumping teammate

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Driver Rusty Wallace was fined $10,000 for intentionally bumping his car into a teammate's car at the Martinsville Speedway, NASCAR announced Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the end of a Nextel Cup Series race Oct. 24.

Wallace was fined for "actions detrimental to stock car racing," a NASCAR report said.

Wallace's car "made deliberate contact with the car of Ryan Newman as the field returned to pit lane following the conclusion of the race," NASCAR said.

Both men drive for Penske Racing South.

Wallace apparently was upset after their cars bumped as Newman passed him late in the race, which was won by Jimmie Johnson.

Newman ended up in third place and Wallace 10th.
