Bears running back has MRI

LAKE FOREST, Ill., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Chicago Bears running back Thomas Jones had an MRI Monday to determine damage done to his foot which he injured Sunday.

Jones, the Bears' leading rusher, will be evaluated further on Wednesday. He was injured in the first play from scrimmage during Sunday's 23-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

"I have no idea really of Thomas' situation," Chicago Coach Lovie Smith said. "I assume he'll be able to go this week. We'll know more a little bit later on. We don't know exactly how long he'll be out."

If Jones is unable to play Sunday, Anthony Thomas will assume the duties as the Bears' No. 1 rusher against the New York Giants.

Thomas ran for 98 yards on 25 carries in relief of Jones Sunday night.
