Francisco pleads not guilty

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Texas reliever Frank Francisco pled not guilty Friday to a misdemeanor charge resulting from his throwing a chair into a group of fans.

The incident occurred during a Texas-Oakland game Sept. 13. After being heckled throughout the game, Francisco tossed the chair into the stands and struck a woman in the face. She suffered a broken nose.

Francisco was not present in the courtroom Friday when the plea was entered.

A conviction would carry a maximum punishment of one year in jail and three years probation. Charges against Francisco were reduced Thursday from a felony to a misdemeanor.
