Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Freshman guard DeMarcus Nelson of Duke's basketball team underwent thumb surgery Wednesday and will be sidelined 2-4 weeks.
The 6-3, 195-pound Elk Grove, Calif., native suffered a ruptured thumb ligament in his right hand during Duke's annual Blue-White scrimmage Saturday.
"Injuries are part of the game and if there is a bright side it is that it happened early in the season and the expected recovery time is relatively short," Coach Mike Krzyzewski said.
"We have the best medical personnel working with DeMarcus and we're very optimistic about a quick return."
