DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Running back Alvin Pearman rushed for a career-high 223 yards on 38 carries Saturday as the 15th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers overcame Duke, 37-16.

Placekicker Conor Hughes kicked three field goals in the second quarter for the winners, who improved to 6-1, 2-1 ACC.

Marques Hagans went 11-of-20 passing for 163 yards and one touchdown for Virginia, which beat Duke (1-6, 0-4 ACC) for the fifth straight time. Wali Lundy added 82 yards on 11 carries. He scored two touchdowns.

Mike Schneider, who was sacked six times, was 18-of-30 passing for 191 yards and two touchdowns for Duke. He had two touchdown passes and one interception.

Pearman also had three receptions for 44 yards.
