
STARKVILLE, Miss., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Jerious Norwood rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as the Mississippi State Bulldogs upset the 19th-ranked Florida Gators, 38-31.
The Bulldogs, who had been idle since Oct. 9, lost their most recent game to Alabama-Birmingham. They improved to 2-5, 1-3 SEC.
The Gators wasted big efforts by quarterback Chris Leak and running back Ciatrick Fason. Leak was 20-of-34 passing for 269 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Fason had 139 yards rushing on 16 carries and one touchdown.
The Gators dropped to 4-3, 2-3 SEC.
It was the first win over a ranked team for MSU Coach Sylvester Croom.
Omar Conner was 15-of-24 passing with one touchdown for the winners. He added 50 yards rushing on 13 carries.
