
SOUTH BEND, Ind., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Tony Gonzalez caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Paul Peterson with 58 seconds left Saturday as Boston College beat 25th-ranked Notre Dame, 24-23.
Peterson completed 27-of-41 passes for 383 yards and two touchdowns for Boston College (5-2), which trailed 20-7 in the contest. Lennox Whitworth added a rushing score and Joel Hazard caught a 21-yard TD pass for the Eagles.
Brady Quinn threw for 231 yards on 20-of-33 passing with two touchdowns, but also had two interceptions for Notre Dame (5-3). Quinn also had a one-yard touchdown run for the Fighting Irish.
D.J. Fitzpatrick, who earlier had missed an extra-point, kicked a 43-yard field goal to give Notre Dame a 23-17 cushion with 2:51 left in the fourth.
Notre Dame had one last chance for the win, but Fitzpatrick's 56-yard field goal attempt went wide as time expired.
