Latest Clarett appeal denied

NEW YORK, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- The 2nd U.S. Court of Appeals on Friday denied a request for a rehearing by former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett in his case against the NFL.

Clarett has been attempting to challenge the rules governing the NFL Draft. Those rules state a player cannot be drafted unless he is three years removed from high school graduation.

A federal judge originally ruled the age limit violated anti-trust laws, but that decision was overturned by the appeals court.

Clarett could appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, but by next April's draft he will be eligible. He has not played football since he was a freshman at Ohio State. He was suspended the following year for receiving improper benefits.
