Venus sets up meeting with Sharapova

ZURICH, Switzerland, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Venus Williams set up a quarterfinal meeting with Wimbledon champ Maria Sharapova Thursday with a victory at the Swisscom Challenge.

Williams got past 16-year-old qualifier Ana Ivanovic, 7-6 (13-11), 7-6 (8-6). Williams won this event in 1999 and will try to end Sharapova's 10-match winning streak.

It will be the first meeting of the two stars.

Third-seeded Elena Dementieva also reached the quarterfinals by defeating Elena Bovina for the third time this month, 7-5, 3-6, 6-0.
