NEW YORK, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox won a third of the first 15 World Series ever played. They have not won one since.

Thanks to the biggest playoff comeback in baseball history, Boston will have a chance to finally add a sixth title to the five they won early in the 20th Century.

"To do what we did is really amazing," said Boston Manager Terry Francona. "You cannot single out a single player on this team. The MVP of our team is everybody."

Boston advanced to the World Series Wednesday night with a 10-3 win over the New York Yankees.

Since defeating the Chicago Cubs in six games in the 1918 World Series, the Red Sox have played in baseball's biggest show four times.

In each of those four World Series, Boston lost in seven games -- to the New York Mets in 1986, Cincinnati in 1975 and St. Louis in both 1967 and 1946.

"I know New England is going to look forward to us getting home," said Game 7 winner Derek Lowe. "We can't wait to get home, either."
