Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW YORK, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The NBA announced Wednesday that Minnesota forward Eddie Griffin would be suspended without pay for the first three games of the season.
Griffin pleaded guilty in Texas to a misdemeanor assault charge. Under the league's collective bargaining agreement, any player convicted on a criminal charge is automatically suspended.
"As an organization, we understand today's decision by the NBA," said Kevin McHale, the Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations. "It addresses an event from Eddie's past and we know that Eddie regrets the incident and is deeply sorry for that occurred."
